Suzy Spence is an artist based in New York City and Vermont. She grew up on Mount Desert Island in Maine before attending Parsons School of Design in New York. Suzy’s expressionist work is multi-layered, inviting viewers to explore its unfolding nuanced elements both aesthetically and in content. Her works balance feminine delicacy with the world of horse riding and the athletes behind this unique sport. Spence had her first solo exhibition at legendary dealer Colin DeLand’s American Fine Arts gallery in 1998, a space at the intersection of art, fashion and performance whose archives are now held at The Smithsonian and Bard College Library. Her work has been exhibited in international gallery and museum exhibitions, and is in notable collections.
