Persol has returned to its Cannes Film Festival perch this year on La Terrasse by Albane at the JW Marriott — for good reason.
The hot Italian eyewear brand will unveil Persol 714 Steve McQueen, a line dedicated to the legendary Hollywood star and designed to seamlessly blend “elegance and functionality,” per the brand. The model features a folding pilot frame handcrafted in acetate with metal accents like hexagonal rivets on the bridge, flexible Meflecto temples for enhanced comfort and the recognizable Supreme Arrow, a Persol signature.
The limited-edition line also has some surprising touches: Inside the left temple is a metal plaque with the date 1968 as a nod to the year that saw the release of The Thomas Crown Affair. McQueen played the title character in the Norman Jewison-directed film opposite Faye Dunaway and Paul Burke. In the beloved film, McQueen donned the original 714 frames, which underscores the bond between the late star and one of the world’s oldest eyewear companies.
To mark such an occasion, Persol is offering up a minimalist collector’s box that features a curated selection of exclusive accessories: a foldable leather glasses case, a coordinated leather cord with its matching pouch — both embossed with the Steve McQueen logo — a premium paper pouch for the microfiber cloth, and a vintage-inspired envelope containing rare archival material that celebrates McQueen’s enduring legacy.
Good news for McQueen and Persol aficionados: The glasses come red carpet ready for any Palais premiere outings.
